Do I need approval to install solar in the UAE?

Yes. Every system is designed to your utility's current rules: DEWA, SEWA, TAQA or EtihadWE. Many communities also require a developer NOC.

How this is worked out

≈6 kWp from AED 26,500 excl. VAT: Indicative, for a typical system. Assumes about 1,620–1,711 kWh per kWp a year for homes (tilted panels) and 1,517–1,602 for businesses, depending on emirate, published utility tariffs (as of September 2026) rising 3% a year, panel output falling 1% in year 1 and 0.4% a year after, and the electricity charge or kWh you enter (not water, sewerage or housing fees). Savings are a share of the electricity charge, shown with VAT as on your bill. Prices excl. VAT; home paybacks include the 5% VAT a household pays. Utility approvals included; municipality fees and NOCs excluded. Your survey-based proposal is fixed.

Yes. Buy the system outright and own it, and its savings, from day one.

Yes, two ways. PPA (power purchase agreement): Pay for the solar power the system produces instead of buying the system. Lease-to-own: Fixed monthly payments over an agreed term, and the system becomes yours at the end. PPA and lease-to-own are arranged per project; terms depend on the system and eligibility. Ask us.

Yes. Prefer to finance through your own bank? We prepare the documents your bank asks for.

Solar can take up to 90% or more off your electricity bill, with Dubai net metering, or a larger home battery elsewhere. It depends on usage, roof and battery size. The higher your consumption, the more you save proportionally, because solar eliminates your most expensive tariff-slab units first.

See your own payback in our calculator. It depends on your usage. Abu Dhabi's lower tariffs pay back more slowly than Dubai or the Northern Emirates: your bill, your tariff and your roof decide it. The assumptions behind it are on our pricing page.

For larger businesses in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, payback is typically 3–4 years. It depends on your usage. Your bill, tariff and roof decide it; the calculator shows yours. The assumptions behind these figures are on our pricing page.

For most villas with bills above ~AED 1,000/month and most daytime-operating businesses, yes: the UAE combines strong year-round sun with tiered tariffs that make self-generated power cheaper than grid power. For low-consumption homes or heavily subsidised accounts, payback stretches; an honest assessment tells you which side you're on.

Generally yes: a transferable system that cuts the next owner's bills is a sellable asset, and sustainability features increasingly appear in UAE property listings.

The main "incentive" is structural: net-metering programmes (like Shams Dubai) credit your exported units against consumption. There is no cash subsidy for residential solar; beware any pitch claiming otherwise.

Quotes differ mainly in component class (named brands vs unknown panels), structural scope, warranty terms, and what's quietly excluded (fees, cleaning access). Compare what's included, never just the single total. We'll happily translate a competitor's quote for you.

Utility & Community Rules

8 questions

Yes. Every system is designed to your utility's current rules: DEWA, SEWA, TAQA or EtihadWE. Many communities also require a developer NOC.

Shams Dubai is DEWA's programme for connecting rooftop solar to Dubai's grid with net metering: your exports earn credits that offset your grid consumption. Systems are designed to DEWA's requirements and use approved equipment.

Your meter counts both directions: units you import from the grid and units your system exports. At billing, exports offset imports, so daytime overproduction effectively "stores" value for your nighttime use, without a battery.

Yes. Every system is designed to your utility's current rules: DEWA, SEWA, TAQA or EtihadWE. DEWA, SEWA, TAQA and EtihadWE each set their own rules, and we design to the one your property is connected to. Solar Oasis remains your single point of accountability from survey to switch-on.

A No-Objection Certificate from your community developer or master community, confirming your installation meets their guidelines. Most Dubai master communities require one; standalone properties usually don't. Your proposal says whether your community needs one.

Approval times vary by utility, and community NOCs vary with the community's cycle. Your proposal gives the realistic timeline for your emirate before you sign.

Yes, with the owner's signature on the utility application. Many landlords agree: solar adds property value at no cost to them. We provide a one-page owner briefing that makes the conversation easy.

Yes. In Dubai we design villa systems for net metering under Shams Dubai, and we don't offer batteries there. Outside Dubai, systems are zero-export, with hybrid (battery) and off-grid options. See [your emirate's page](/locations).

Performance & Climate

8 questions

Yes. Output dips a few percent on the hottest afternoons (heat slightly reduces panel voltage), but the UAE's strong year-round sun more than makes up for it.

Dust is the UAE's real output thief, and it builds up fast. The fix is simple: scheduled professional cleaning.

Rule of thumb: each kilowatt-peak (kWp) of installed capacity produces about 1,517–1,602 kWh per year on a flat roof in the UAE, depending on the emirate, and about 1,620–1,711 kWh with panels tilted on a villa roof. A 10 kWp villa system therefore yields roughly 16,200–17,110 kWh annually.

Yes, at reduced output, and UAE cloud cover is rare enough that annual production models barely notice it. Rain rinses some dust off, but it's too rare to rely on for cleaning.

At night a grid-tied system draws from the grid as normal. In Dubai, under net metering, credits from your daytime exports offset those night units. Outside Dubai, systems are zero-export, so there are no export credits: you draw from the grid, or from a battery if you have one. Either way, the grid supplies whatever the panels don't. You never lose power because of solar: the grid remains your backup.

Panels carry a 25–30 year performance warranty. They lose a little output each year; your proposal states the warranty for the panels it names. The inverter is the one mid-life replacement to budget for.

Panels survive sandstorms fine: tempered glass is rated for far worse. The issue is the dust film afterwards; production drops until the next cleaning. After a major shamal, an extra cleaning visit is usually worth it.

During sunny hours, usually yes, including AC. Across a full day, a grid-tied system with net metering can offset most of your consumption, though sizing is normally set by payback rather than maximum offset.

Equipment & Installation

9 questions

Installation typically takes 2–4 weeks once we start on site.* Approval times vary by utility, and we give you the realistic timeline for your emirate before you sign. Commercial projects follow a phased plan agreed around your operations.*Depends on the project size.

No. Mounting is engineered per roof type: ballasted (no-drill) options for flat roofs, sealed, waterproof fixings elsewhere, wind-load calculations always. A correct installation protects the roof area it covers.

Yes. Roof sealing and cool-roof coating, as an add-on to your solar project. On the Ajman villa, 100 m² of roof was sealed alongside its solar.

Tier-1 refers to panel manufacturers with proven scale, bankability, and quality track records: the brands large utility-scale projects use. We name the panel brand in every proposal.

Solar Oasis systems use Tier-1 components such as Huawei inverters and Tier-1 panels. We install components on your utility's approved list, and your proposal names the exact inverter and panel brands.

Cleaning (monthly to quarterly depending on dust exposure), an annual electrical inspection, and production monitoring to catch silent faults. That's it, because panels have no moving parts.

Yes, every system includes app-based monitoring: live production, consumption and savings, plus alerts if output drifts from expected. You'll check it obsessively for two weeks, then relax.

No. The system is fully automatic: it produces when the sun is up, the grid covers the rest, and protective systems handle faults without your involvement.

Not usually. South-facing is optimal in the UAE, but east/west layouts typically lose only a modest share of annual output, and we model your actual roof before quoting. Where the roof truly can't work, a carport or pergola often can.

Batteries & Backup

6 questions

It depends on your emirate. In Dubai we design villa systems for net metering under Shams Dubai and don't offer batteries there. Outside Dubai, systems are zero-export, with hybrid (battery) and off-grid options, and a battery can also keep your essentials running in a power cut.

Automatically. Hybrid systems switch automatically between solar, battery and grid with an ATS (automatic transfer switch). Hybrid (battery) and off-grid systems are available in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

Standard grid-tied systems shut down during outages (a safety requirement protecting grid workers). Outside Dubai, if backup matters to you, ask about protected-circuit designs: hybrid (battery) and off-grid systems are available in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. In Dubai, villa systems use net metering under Shams Dubai and we don't offer batteries there.

Warranty terms come from the battery maker and are confirmed in your proposal; they assume the battery is installed shaded and ventilated. Heat management, not cycling, decides battery life in the UAE; we engineer for it.

Not always. An off-grid system runs completely off the grid: the battery covers the night, and an optional generator covers any shortfall.

A battery suits daily or frequent use: silent, no fuel, no servicing. A generator suits rare, long outages and costs less per kWh of backup. Many off-grid designs use both: the battery first, with an optional generator to cover any shortfall.

Property Situations

5 questions

Individual apartments usually can't (the roof belongs to the building), but building owners and owners' associations can install common-area systems. If that's you, or you can nudge your owners' association, talk to us.

Now, before the roof design is finalised. Provisioning conduit, inverter space, and structural allowance at design stage costs almost nothing and saves real money versus retrofitting.

The system transfers with the property. The warranty certificate follows the property if it is sold.

Yes, all seven: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Yes. Taking over systems other companies installed is a core service. We start with a full health check and a production benchmark, then bring the system back to rated output and keep it there.
