The short answer
Ask every solar company the same 12 questions and compare the answers side by side. A good company answers each one in writing, with your bill and your roof in front of them.

What should you ask about the price and the parts?
Start with what you are buying, and get each answer in writing.
- Is the price fixed after the site survey? A quote from a satellite image is a starting point. Ask what can still change once someone has been on the roof.
- Which panels and which inverter, exactly? Brand and model on paper, not a vague label. Then you can check each one yourself.
- What warranty comes with each part, and for how long? Panels, inverter, mounting and workmanship each carry their own warranty. Get all four in writing.
For the parts themselves, see our guides to solar panel brands and high-efficiency panels.
- Inverter
- The box that turns the panels' power into the electricity your home or business uses.
Who stands behind the warranty?
A warranty only helps if someone acts on it, and if it stays with the system.
- Who registers the warranties and handles claims with the manufacturer? Our answer: we register the products and handle manufacturer claims for you.
- Does the warranty follow the property if I sell? Ask whether the cover goes with the house. Our answer: the warranty certificate follows the property if it is sold.

How was my system sized, and what will it save?
The right size comes from your own bills and your roof, and the saving should be one you can check.
- How did you size my system? From your own bills and your roof, not a rule of thumb.
- What will it save me each month, and on which tariff? Ask for the figure, the tariff it uses and the yearly rise assumed, so you can compare quotes like for like.
- What does my emirate allow: net metering or zero-export? In Dubai, exports offset your bill. In the other emirates the panels run your home or business first and nothing is sold back, which changes the right size.
- Do I need a battery? A battery helps with backup and evening use. A good company tells you when you don't need one.
See your own figures in our savings calculator, and read more in our guides to solar costs by emirate and solar batteries.
What about the roof, and after switch-on?
- Has my roof been checked for shade, structure and space? Shade from a parapet or a water tank costs output. Ask what was checked and what was found.
- What monitoring do I get, and what happens when output drops? You should see your system's output on your phone, and know who acts when it falls.
- Can I see systems like mine that you have finished? Ask for projects of your size and type, in your emirate, with figures.
